THE mother of a student who was bullied at the Malay College in Kuala Kangsar has accused the Education Ministry of failing to keep its promise to meet her to discuss the September assault.

The woman, who asked to be known as Puan F, told Free Malaysia Today that Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying had on November 8 assured her of such a meeting with government officials.

“They (the Education Ministry) offered to meet with us, but until now, no one has reached out to us despite us contacting the deputy minister’s secretary directly,” Puan F said.

Her son was hospitalised after suffering a groin injury as the result of the assault by a group of senior students.

It was reported on Monday that the police had resubmitted the investigation paper on the case to the deputy public prosecutor’s office after obtaining the victim’s full medical report.

The case was investigated under section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, an offence punishable by a maximum of one year in jail or a RM2,000 fine upon conviction.

Puan F said she hoped the Attorney-General’s Chambers would take it from there.

She was also critical of the disciplinary action taken by the school.

She said the school had failed to enforce its “you touch, you go” policy, meaning bullies would be expelled.

However, the bullies were only given three strokes of the cane and ordered to do community service. – December 6, 2023.
