Kelantan flood evacuee tally swells


THE number of flood victims at temporary relief centres as at 8pm in Kelantan rose, while Terengganu’s tally dropped.

Selangor today became the third state to open relief centres to house flood evacuees.

IN KELANTAN, the number of evacuees increased to 709 from 201 families as at 7.45pm compared with 531 people from 144 families this morning.

The Social Welfare Department’s Disaster Info portal said 232 victims from Pasir Mas (79 families) were sheltering at SK Tok Deh, while 56 victims from 16 families were housed at SK Kedai Tanjung.

In Bachok district, 354 victims from 90 families were placed at SK Jelawat, and 67 victims from 16 families were evacuated to SK Beris Panchor.

IN TERENGGANU, floods were receding as the evacuee tally dropped to 326 from 73 families compared with 621 victims from 147 families in 12 relief centres this morning.

The Terengganu Disaster Management Committee said in Kuala Terengganu, 91 victims from 22 families were still housed at two relief centres, while in Besut, 176 victims from 39 families were sheltering at one relief centre.

In Dungun, 50 victims from 10 families were taking refuge at two relief centres, while in Setiu, nine victims were placed at one relief centre.

It said six relief centres in Kemaman, Marang and Kuala Nerus were closed this afternoon.

IN SELANGOR, one relief centre was opened on Friday and another one today to house 83 evacuees from 29 families, the Disaster Info portal showed.

The relief centres were at Rantau Panjang City Hall with 47 victims, and SK Sultan Abdul Aziz with 36 victims. – Bernama, November 26, 2023.
