Muda selects 6 more candidates for state polls


Muda has announced the names of another six candidates who will be contesting in the August 12 state polls. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, July 17, 2023.

MUDA information chief Luqman Long has been nominated to contest in the Bandar Terengganu state seat while the party has also announced the names of five other candidates who will be contesting in the August 12 state polls. 

In Selangor, Muda has named four candidates, namely Al-Hafiz Ikhwan (Dusun Tua), R Siva Prakash (Kuala Kubu Baru), Afriena Shaqiera Sariff (Sungai Kandis), and Dobby Chew (Seri Setia).

Another Muda candidate, Priyankaa Loh, will contest the Jerejak seat in Penang.

Al-Hafiz, 33, is an architect, Selangor Muda chairman, and head of Muda’s Hulu Langat parliament.

Siva, 40, is an academic and Selangor deputy chairman who also heads Muda’s Hulu Selangor parliament.

Chew, 33, is a member of Muda human rights executive committee and heads Muda’s Human Rights Bureau.

Priyankaa, 27, is a tuition teacher and heads Muda’s Penang Youth Education Bureau.

Afriena, 26, is a mechanical engineer and Muda Selangor’s treasurer.

Last week, Muda announced its first batch of candidates for the upcoming state elections, which included three women – Thanusha Ramanieswaran, Saiyidah Izzati Nur Razak Maideen, and Melanie Ting Yi-Hlin. 

Thanusha, 25, is Muda’s central executive committee member, a teacher by profession.  

She will be fielded as a contestant for the Sentosa seat.  

Syaidiyah, 35, a lawyer, will be Muda’s candidate for the Batu Tiga seat.  

The Shah Alam native is also Muda’s deputy of education and innovation for the Selangor state executive committee.  

Melanie Ting Yi-Hlin, 23, is a law graduate.

She is contesting the Bukit Antarabangsa seat, currently held by former Selangor menteri besar Mohamed Azmin Ali.  

The party’s sole male candidate is its secretary-general Amir Abdul Hadi, who will contest the Sri Serdang seat.

Party president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said those four are capable candidates and called on voters to give them a chance. – July 17, 2023.
