Kedah, Perlis sign land and maritime boundary deal

THE Perlis and Kedah governments today signed a land and maritime boundary agreement covering a land area of 44.3km and three nautical miles (5.6km) of maritime area.

The agreement was signed by Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor and Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli at Wisma Darul Aman in Alor Setar.

The signing was witnessed by Survey and Mapping Director-General Mohammad Zaki Mohd Ghazali and Geomatics and Land Surveying Division secretary of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Muhammad Yasir Yahya.

Sanusi said the agreement marks new history between the two states after being able to finalise the land and sea borderlines.

“This is a new chapter for Malaysia as well as Kedah and Perlis in establishing more productive cooperation in the future and to boost existing cooperation.

“(This will) generate new areas of high-impact cooperation that will benefit the people of both states,” he told reporters after signing the deal.

He said his government also needs the support, cooperation and expertise of the Survey and Mapping Department to resolve boundary issues between Kedah and neighbours Penang and Perak. – Bernama, May 29, 2023.
