TIRED of having to deal with seemingly endless water cuts, Kedah residents have demanded a comprehensive solution.

A resident of Kubur Panjang, Abdul Rahman Ideris, said the frequent cuts in his area had forced him to buy a pump to take water from a local well.

“The price of the water pump is between RM400 and RM500, it’s expensive… not including installation cost, which can be another RM800.

“Even then, the water pump breaks down and you need to buy another one.

“Yet, I have to rely on well water, because pipe water is unreliable,” the 71-year-old petty trader said.

Abd Munin Idris, 51, of Kampung Kubang Pisang, said water cuts in his area occurred at certain periods depending on the location.

Although there has been an increase in the population, the water supply infrastructure has not been upgraded, he said and hoped the next government would take action.

Meanwhile, in Merbok, Pertubuhan Warisan Sejati Kampung Bujang secretary Akmal Ismail, said the problem had made daily life difficult for the 1,500 residents of the village.

“It becomes worse when it rains because the water becomes murky and the water treatment plant stops working,” he said.

Ghazali Shaari, 62, of Kampung Bujang, also in the Merbok constituency, said Syarikat Air Darul Aman Sdn Bhd would send tankers when there is a cut, but it is not enough to cover his household needs. – Bernama, November 10, 2022.
