1,918 new Covid cases, 8 deaths

MALAYSIA logged 1,918 fresh Covid-19 cases yesterday, a drop from 2,536 infections recorded on Sunday, the Health Ministry reported.

The new cases brought the cumulative infections tally since the onset of the pandemic to 4,575,809.

Eight fatalities were reported yesterday, three more than the day before. The death toll is now at 35,784.

Kuala Lumpur posted the most number of cases at 662, followed by Selangor (482) and Perak (153).

Sabah registered 119 cases, Negri Sembilan (103), Johor (89), Penang (77), Kedah (48), Malacca (44), Putrajaya (38), Pahang (27), Sarawak (25), Terengganu (20), Kelantan (20), Labuan (6) and Perlis (5).

From the eight fatalities recorded, five were in Penang, two in Johor and one in Kedah.

Active cases dropped to 29,382 yesterday, as 2,321 people recovered from the disease.

Among the active cases, 28,140 (95.8%) were in home quarantine, 26 (0.1%) were in low-risk quarantine centres and 1,172 (4.1%) were in hospitals.

Forty-four patients were in intensive care, 24 of whom required respiratory assistance. – July 5, 2022.
