2,093 new Covid-19 cases, 3 deaths

MALAYSIA logged 2,093 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, taking the cumulative number of infections since the onset of the pandemic to 4,542,705.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal, the death toll rose to 35,735 after three fatalities were reported yesterday.

Selangor, the country’s most populous state, continued to post the most number of infections at 1,007 cases.

It was the only state to have reported cases in four figures yesterday.

Kuala Lumpur registered 444 cases, followed by Penang (155), Negri Sembilan (82), Sabah (76), Johor (62), Perak (62), Malacca (58), Sarawak (34), Kedah (30), Pahang (23), Putrajaya (19), Kelantan (18), Terengganu (14), Perlis (8) and Labuan (1).

Of the three deaths, one each were reported in Kedah, Penang and Selangor.

The number of active cases increased slightly to 25,952 yesterday, even as 2,082 people recovered from the disease.

Of the active cases, 24,929 or 96.1%, were in home quarantine, 15 (0.1%) in low-risk quarantine centres and 985 (3.8%) in hospitals.

A total of 23 patients were in intensive care, 18 of whom required respiratory assistance. – June 21, 2022.
