2,239 Covid-19 cases yesterday

A total of 2,239 new coronavirus cases have been recorded yesterday, with Selangor topping the list at 1,148 infections. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, May 16, 2022.

MALAYSIA recorded 2,239 new Covid-19 infections yesterday, compared to 2,373 cases the day before.

Data on the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website showed that the fresh infections bring the cumulative cases to 4,478,112 since the start of the pandemic. 

Selangor posted the highest number of infections yesterday with 1,148 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (338) and Penang (171). 

Negri Sembilan logged 112 new cases, Perak (105), Johor (87), Sarawak (30), Malacca (81), Putrajaya (15), Kedah (43), Pahang (28), Sabah (43), Terengganu (17), Kelantan (13), Perlis (6) and Labuan (2). 

A total of four deaths were recorded yesterday, one of them dead on arrival, bringing the total number of Covid-19 deaths to 35,615.

The fatality rate stood at 0.3% and the cumulative fatality rate, 0.8%. – May 16, 2022.
