1,877 new Covid cases, 2 deaths

MALAYSIA recorded 1,877 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, bringing the cumulative number of infections since the pandemic began to 4,500,934, the Health Ministry said.

There were only four imported cases detected from the 1,877.

The ministry said there were 1,680 recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases in Malaysia to 25,384.

More than 95% of the cases, or 25,234 people, are undergoing home quarantine and only 0.1% or 22 individuals are being treated at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres, the ministry said.

It said only 4.3% of active cases, or 1,098 patients, have been warded.

The highest number of hospital admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor, at 126, followed by Johor (94) and Sabah (67).

The ministry said 30 patients are warded in intensive care units in the country, where 18 require ventilator support.

Meanwhile, health authorities recorded two deaths, taking the Covid-19 fatality toll to 35,658.

The two fatalities were recorded in Selangor.

This month, 111 Covid-19 deaths were recorded while 564 fatalities and 2,235 deaths were logged last month and in March respectively. – May 28, 2022.
