WARISAN president Mohd Shafie Apdal said he is open to any challenge to his position in the upcoming party polls in August.

He said the party practises democracy, meaning that anyone can challenge the position of any leader at any level.

“If our leadership is still accepted, that is okay… there is no restriction or obstacle for party members (to contest any position),” he told a media conference in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, today.

“In fact, I told my deputy (Warisan deputy president Darell Leiking) that if he wants to contest the top position it is not a problem.”

Warisan initially applied to postpone its polls, but its bid was rejected by the Registrar of Societies.

Shafie said as a political party, Warisan needs to be prepared for anything, including the 15th general election, and has strong support from its grassroots.

“I am convinced that the party is still strong and united.

“Though faced with various challenges, it remains firm and continues to garner the support of the people. Warisan, at the grassroots level, is still strong.” – Bernama, June 4, 2022.
