WARISAN has announced six candidates for the Johor elections, five of whom are contesting seats previously held by Pakatan Harapan (PH).
The Sabah-based party announced Bekok, Johor Jaya, Pekan Nanas, Mahkota, Bukit Batu and Permas as the seats it will contest in the March 12 polls, according to media reports of the announcement in Johor today.
The filing of nominations is tomorrow.
The five seats previously held by PH are Bekok, Johor Jaya and Pekan Nanas (DAP), Mahkota (Amanah), and Bukit Batu (PKR).
Permas was a Bersatu seat.
Warisan’s announcement means it will face off with its federal-level allies, as DAP will be defending its three seats, as will Amanah and PKR.
Warisan president Mohd Shafie Apdal said the party did not want to be aligned with any other.
“We are aligned to the people of Johor,” he was quoted as saying, adding that Warisan would use its own campaign infrastructure in the Johor polls.
The party expanded its reach from Sabah to the peninsula in December, initially announcing that it would work with Muda.
Shafie also said Warisan had people offering to stand as a party candidate in other constituencies, but the party decided to put forward six names for the Johor polls, so that it would have “potentials” for the 15th general election. – February 25, 2022.
