FINANCIAL assistance of up to RM5,000 will be given to entrepreneurs affected by the floods, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this evening.

In a statement, Ismail said the financial assistance is interest/profit free with the repayment period starting only after six months of the financing agreement being signed with Bank Simpanan Nasional.

The announcement comes after Ismail announced yesterday an allocation of RM100 million for post-flood repairs for homes and infrastructure nationwide.

He also announced that heads of affected households will each receive a RM1,000 aid.

The money will be disbursed after the floods and when displaced victims have returned to their homes.

Meanwhile, Ismail said government-linked investment companies (GLICs) and government-linked companies (GLCs) have agreed to contribute RM50.8 million to assist in flood management and post-flood recovery efforts.

“This is an increase of more than 100% from the RM25 million announced yesterday,” he said in the statement.

“The GLICs and GLCs that have contributed include Petronas, Petronas Foundation, Khazanah Nasional, Yayasan Hasanah, Sime Darby Foundation, CIMB, Celcom, Telekom Malaysia, UEM Foundation and Employees Provident Fund.

“With a government grant of RM25 million, this means that the fund to address the impact of floods and post-flood rehabilitation is RM75.8 million.”

He said the government has also agreed that the flood problem in Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam should be resolved immediately.

He said all agencies have been instructed to work more aggressively to help the flood victims there.

“As of this evening, 41 boats, 16 lorries and other assets have been moved to Taman Sri Muda with a strength of 321 rescue team members,” the Bera MP said. – December 20, 2021.
