DR Mahathir Mohamad will not be the same type of prime minister that he was the last time he held office, said Pakatan Harapan deputy chairman Muhyiddin Yassin.
The former deputy prime minister said under PH, the decisions of the prime minister will be guided by a presidential council made up of leaders from DAP, PKR, Pribumi and Amanah.
“Although Tun (Mahathir) has been endorsed by the four parties unanimously, we believe he will act in accordance with what the coalition wants.
“He will be guided by the policy spelt out by the PH presidential council. The position is not the same as the prime minister in Barisan Nasional, where he held the position for 22 years when he was still in BN,” he told reporters in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, today.
Critics have often accused the former prime minister of being dictatorial during his time in office, and PH’s move name him prime minister-designate has created some unhappiness among the coalition’s ranks.
Muhiyiddin said a PH prime minister has the responsibility to ensure PH manifesto pledges are delivered, and that the post cannot be held for more than two terms.
“On matters like policy, before it is brought to the cabinet, it will be presented to the PH supreme council first.
“Dr Mahathir will be expressing his views, other PH leaders will also share their views, too. Rest assured that his duty as prime minister is also guided by the things he had promised to the people.”
He said those who had a grudge against Dr Mahathir should re-think their position, saying the fight in PH was to save the nation.
Sabahans blame Dr Mahathir for a laundry list of issues, such as his alleged involvement in flooding the state with illegal immigrants and providing them citizenship through the so-called “Projek IC”.
“But you can imagine, if people like DAP’s Lim Kit Siang, Anwar Ibrahim and others could come together with Dr Mahathir, there is a higher reason for this. It is to save the country.
“You want to forget the problems of the past and bring about normalcy, and give much needed support to make a better Malaysia through PH, ” he said. – January 24, 2018.

Mahathir blames Najib for perpetrating many wrongs to the nation. But Najib has only done what UMNO government performed in the past, maybe with improvement to perfection. It is most probable that Mahathir has used up all his tricks to set up UMNO culture in government. So Mahahtir could not have more tricks up his sleeve. Non-Malays have experienced the worst when Mahathir was at his best to deliver the discriminatory policies; it is believed that he can't do much worse, even if left unattended. Unlike MCA and MIC, PH component parties together could produce a dozen persons who are capable of assuming the position as PM, given the chance. They should be able to show Mahathir the right path to guide the nation forward. Taking Mahahtir into PH is like taking medicine. Medicines are poison, but needed. Even if we assume that Najib has done no wrong, it is still time to defeat BN, so that the country can have a choice, and BN should not have the monopoly for six decades and continued forever. It would be odd if we are forced to accept BN knowing about their frauds, but not willing to accept a calculated risk to improve our destiny. Notice always that Mahathir as pm is temporary but dozens others are waiting to do good for the nation.
