IN line with the aspiration of the Mutual Wealth Vision 2021-2030, the government will focus on bridging the income gap by looking into several aspects, including creating more jobs and ensuring a reasonable salary for all.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said these two aspects were important in the effort to improve purchasing power among the people.

“In this case, a more reasonable salary would have a positive impact on reducing dependency on foreign workers,” he said at the national-level Fight Against Dengue by the My Healthy Village (Kampungku Sihat) community programme organised by the Bagan parliamentary constituency office in Butterworth today.

The programme was officiated by Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.

Lim said to boost job opportunities, a proposal would be submitted to Parliament on October 11.

“This is a priority; it will not only bridge the socioeconomic gap, it will also increase the people’s income. All of these must be generated so that prosperity can be shared by everyone, in line with the country’s economic development,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the Kampungku Sihat programme, Lim said that the principle of the programme, “Prevention is Better than Cure”, was a laudable effort.

“I hope that in the long run, this programme will reduce the government’s financial burden on health. As more people become aware and adopt a healthier lifestyle to prevent illness, the less the government will have to pay for medical treatment.” – Bernama, September 15, 2019.
