THE family of the person killed in a road rage incident on the KL-Seremban Highway on Saturday urged the public not to take advantage of the incident and prey on their grief today.
Mohd Rozhan Ramlee, the father in-law of the deceased – identified as bank manager Syed Muhammad Danial Syed Syakir, 29 – said the family have received several phone calls and messages from people claiming to have witnessed the incident.
This includes a person in a blue shirt, who claimed to have been present when the tussle between the victim and the suspect broke out.
“A lot of excuses were given, including wanting to see me first, butI told them to lodge a police report.
“I welcome their help but please don’t take advantage of the incident,” said 57-year-old Rozhan.
The victim’s brothers-in-law Azraei Arief, 22, and Zafri Amir, 19, gave their statements to the police this morning to help in the investigations.
Rozhan said Zafri was the first to arrive at the scene and took Syed Muhammad Danial to the nearby Klinik Kesihatan, before heading to Nilai Medical Centre after finding that the clinic was closed.
“Azraei, who was also there, tried to resuscitate my son in-law on the way to the hospital,” said Rozhan.
He hoped the police will be able to carry out a thorough and unbiased investigation of the incident.
Syed Muhammad Danial leaves behind a widow Qistina Ayu Mohd Rozhan, 28, and a four-month-old daughter, Sharifah Dian.
Selangor CID chief Fadzil Ahmat said initial investigations revealed that Syed Muhammad Danial rammed his Perodua Axia into the suspects’ Toyota Innova.
“Following that, the two (cars) started to chase and taunt each other until the drivers stopped after the Bandar Baru Bangi exit.
“Subsequently, a fight broke out between the suspect and the deceased,” Fadzil said in a statement.
Other drivers tried to calm them and they both got back into their vehicles.
“However, the deceased got out of his car with a baseball bat and hit the front of the suspect’s car,” said Fadzil.
The suspect then moved his vehicle forward, slamming the victim into a barrier.
Police have obtained a seven-day remand order against the 40-year-old driver and his 36-year-old wife to facilitate investigations. – August 12, 2019.
