THE party is puzzled by the arrest of Anwar Ibrahim’s aide in connection with the sex video scandal implicating Mohamed Azmin Ali, said PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin.

“We are a bit puzzled how come his political secretary is remanded with regards to the sex video investigation,” she told reporters at Parliament lobby today.

She said it should be left to Anwar to decide if he wants to provide any explanation on his aide’s arrest.

“We leave it to him, now we have made our ‘teguran’, our comments on the situation, we leave it to him on what he wants to do as the president of the party.

“We got him to take up the party post unopposed, therefore he has to recognise that we respect him and we want him to become president.”

Police have so far arrested nine people, including Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, who is also political secretary to Anwar, in their investigations into the production and distribution of the sex video.

Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador had said police did not rule out the possibility that there was a conspiracy behind the sex videos and that those arrested so far were taking orders from someone in position.

Anwar yesterday said he was surprised by the arrest of Farhash.

Last month, a series of clips showing two men engaging in sexual acts was released on WhatsApp.

Former Santubong PKR youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz then admitted to being one of the men in the videos and implicated Azmin.

Azmin, who is PKR deputy president and economic affairs minister, had denied the claims, calling it a plot to ruin his career.

PKR has since sacked Haziq. Apart from Farhash, the police have also arrested Haziq.

This is the second time Haziq has been arrested in connection with the case. He was picked up and held overnight by police last month. – July 18, 2019.
