POLICE this morning took Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for an examination, said his lawyer Ramesh Sivakumar.

Ramesh told The Malaysian Insight the Santubong PKR Youth chief would be released after that.

“Haziq was taken for an examination and is expected to be released on police bail after that,” Ramesh said.

“Police have told me he will not be remanded as Bukit Aman top brass have instructed them to release him.”

Haziq was arrested at 6pm yesterday at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Haziq, who claims to be the lover of Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali, was set to board a flight to Manila in the Philippines when he was arrested.

Haziq, 27, had earlier this week confessed to be one of the two men in a sex video that has gone viral. He said the other man in the video was Azmin.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Huzir Mohamed today said the “suspect” was arrested at the international departure hall.

“Based on his flight ticket, the suspect was heading to Manila,” Huzir said.

Huzir said Haziq was held under Section 292 of the Penal Code for the sale or distribution of obscene material, Section 504 for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, Section 377B for committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.

The arrest was made by Bukit Aman’s Criminal Special Task Force (USJT) about 6pm.

Yesterday, Haziq lodged a police report defending himself against accusations that his confession was politically motivated. He said he feared for his life.

Haziq also posted a copy of the report on Facebook with the caption: “You can call me anything you want but I was never raised a liar.”

In the police report, he repeated his earlier statements on Facebook, calling Azmin a “sick man” for filming their sexual acts without his consent.

Haziq claimed to have had multiple sexual encounters with Azmin over the past three years.

He also called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate Azmin, who he said was unfit to lead.

The PKR deputy president, when asked if he knew Haziq, had said he only knew the Sarawakian “from afar” and highlighted the latter’s past involvement with Barisan Nasional before he joined PKR after Pakatan Harapan won the general election last year.

Azmin has denied it is him in the video, calling it a nefarious plot to destroy his political career. – June 15, 2019.
