FORMER rivals Umno and PAS should not limit their partnership to race and faith matters, but must widen the scope of their collaboration to be in line with the spirit of a multi-racial Malaysia, said Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin.

The two parties, he said, should not be too absorbed with matters pertaining to race and religion only, but instead should be mindful not to aggravate other races.

“Let us work together not only in the name of race and religion but also in the spirit of helping and taking care of Malaysians, especially the poor, regardless of race and religion.

“If the technical committee between PAS and Umno can work together successfully, I would like to see them step beyond the race and religious zone and work towards addressing more comprehensive issues pertaining to the country as a whole,” he said while speaking at a Ceramah at PAS’ Pendang Office last night.

Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan said on March 5 that a technical committee would be formed to work out the synergy and common grounds between the two parties.

After the defeat in the 14th general election, the two former political enemies began working together informally to address matters pertaining to race, religion and negative issues affecting the country.

Khairy also admitted that he was an ardent critic of the partnership at the initial stages of its conception.

“This is the first time I am speaking on a PAS platform. I honour my friendship with Pendang MP, hence I have accepted his invitation to speak here today,” he said.

Khairy said that he was the most cautious among Umno members in receiving the newfound friendship, but admitted that there was no other way to stand against Pakatan Harapan.

It is understood that the two parties had laid down the grounds for the partnership last week.

Approvals of senior leaders will be sought on the matter before an official announcement is made on details of the partnership. – April 27, 2019.

  • KJ obviously does not see eye-to-eye in the PAS-UMNO partnership. Sooner or later KJ will be kicked out of the vicious alliance.

  • How can it not be based on race n religion? UMNOs existence n relevance is based solely on Race. PAS, on the other hand, is based solely on Religion. Only PH cares for all Malaysians irrespective of race and religion.
