YOUTH have realised their mistake in voting for Pakatan Harapan, said Najib Razak.
The former prime minister said Mohamad Hasan’s victory in Rantau tonight is another clear sign that people’s confidence in Barisan Nasional is growing after the 14th general election last May.
“It goes to show that there has been a shift at all levels since GE14, especially among youth who feel that they have made a mistake by voting PH,” he said at the vote-tallying centre after the results were announced.
He said during the by-election campaign, many Rantau folk voiced their dissatisfaction with the government over its frequently changing policies.
The members of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s cabinet are also not well regarded by Malaysians, added Najib.
He described Mohamad as a “far superior” candidate to PH’s Dr S. Streram.
“It wouldn’t have made a difference if the PH candidate came to campaign, because the people already know that the BN candidate is far superior.
“It’s the quality of the candidate that counts, and the people of Rantau have chosen the right candidate.”
Among those present at the vote-tallying centre in support of Mohamad were Najib, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan and MCA president Wee Ka Siong.
Mohamad won with a 4,510-vote majority over Dr Streram and two independents.
It is BN’s third straight by-election win this year, after Cameron Highlands in January and Semenyih last month. – April 13, 2019.
