TWO more idols have been found on the entrance gate of Surau Sabilul Huda in Taman Pendamar Indah, Port Klang yesterday, four days after a similar incident had occurred.
The incident yesterday was discovered by a kariah at 2.45pm when attending a surau for a religious lecture.
According to sources, two small-sized statues (4in x 3in), believed to be car decorative items, were found by a 64-year-old woman.
Police are investigating the case under Section 295 of the Penal Code and trying to locate the suspect. Previous reports said the surau was not equipped with any closed-circuit television (CCTV).
”In-depth investigation covers a variety of aspects, and we do not rule out the possibility of this act being done by deranged people,” they said.
The surau official, Mohd Yatim Omar, 64, said he was deeply concerned about the findings and hoped the authorities would resolve the issue immediately.
He hopes that the surau would install CCTVs immediately, so that the incident would not be repeated.
Meanwhile, when contacted, South Klang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsul Amar Ramli confirmed the incident and advised the public not to take matters into their own hands.
He said such actions could trigger racial clashes and asked the public to allow investigations to be carried out by the authorities.
In the incident last Wednesday, the surau official found an idol placed next to the main entrance of the same surau, believed to be between Zohor and before Asar prayers, when the surau was empty.
Yesterday, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin slammed the irresponsible act of placing idols at the surau.
He said the act was clearly malicious in insulting Islam and undermining racial and religious harmony in the country.
”Police have received some reports on this matter and I have instructed the inspector-general of police to investigate this case in detail.
”Strict legal action must be taken on those who commit seditious acts that are very provocative,” he said in a statement.
He stressed that the Home Ministry would not compromise with any act of contempt towards religion that could cause disharmony. – February 24, 2019.
