POLICE have rounded up 21 suspects allegedly involved in the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple attack early yesterday, which has sparked unease among Malaysians.

Selangor police chief Mazlan Mansor said 19 people were arrested yesterday and the another two this morning.

“The two were arrested in the vicinity of the temple. We also found a parang in a car,” he said at a press conference in Shah Alam.

He said the suspects are being investigated for rioting with weapons and police will apply for a remand order to facilitate their investigation.

Following the attack, which took place in the early hours, thousands thronged the temple last night in a show of support for the temple committee, which is in a legal wrangle with developer One City Development Sdn Bhd.

This morning, a group of men vandalised the MCT Tower in Subang Jaya, Selangor, where the One City Development office is located.

Mazlan said they are also in the midst of identifying the suspects involved in the vandalism at MCT Tower.

“We are identifying them and they will be arrested. We are also hoping for the public to come forward with any information.”

When ask if police have any lead on the mastermind, Mazlan said they will release the information soon.

To date, 23 cars have been torched at the temple, he said.

“We will be removing all the vehicles soon so that they don’t cause any traffic congestion.”

Mazlan also warned the public not to make any unfounded statement.

The situation at the temple is under control, he added. – November 27, 2018.
