Govt won't stop protest against ICERD, says Muhyiddin

Zaim Ibrahim

THE government will not stop a demonstration planned next month by Muslim groups, including PAS and Umno, to protest against Putrajaya’s plan to ratify the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD).

Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said Putrajaya allowed freedom of expression and police would only monitor the protest scheduled for December 8.

“The protest is allowed under the Peaceful Assembly Act. We are taking an open approach because we are a democratic country.

“We are open to anyone who wants to air their concerns,” Muhyiddin told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

However he refused to confirm if anyone had submitted an application for the rally.

He advised the organisers not to cause any trouble.

“Don’t issues statements that are provocative, including those which touch on race and religion,” he added.

Plans for the protest were announced by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Saturday night at a unity gathering of Muslim groups, including PAS and Umno, in Pasir Salak, Perak. – November 19, 2018.

  • After more than 6 months in power , the general perception by rakyat is that many view PH is very passive and submissive in nature . PH had overplayed in showing their administratio and governance to be fair and just with the beliefs in the rule of law. This passive demeanour has now been mocked by the members of the fallen previous regime who as the opposition block are now violently vocal and resorting to physical retaliations. The recent incidents of Najib in refusing to be docked in court hearings , Zahid Hamidi openly threatening chaos and mayhem on their pretext of ICERD taking away Article 153 special rights of the Malays , the unwarranted request of removal of a Minister who has the job responsibility in ICERD rationalising, Badar Vigilante continuing in snubbing the call to disband and many many more skirmishes throughout country all resulting mostly to 3Rs , placed PH to be indecisive and many Minister as being incompetent. If Mahatir do not nip this in the bud , PH will be seen as being inefficient and a softie. Looks like Umno and PAS can run riot in the country without any fear and blatantly ridiculing the PH government. The rule of law application has to be seriousl in effect and not just talk to show who is administrating the country. If other countries or even Umno itself if still in ruling no quarters are given for dissent be it peacefully or abusive in nature. PH has got to start governing and stop all this shit stirring to rattle the government. All these diversion to rock the goverment should be apprehended immediately be necessary that high handed methods to ensure peace. Drop the hypocrisy in being political correct when others are not respecting the rule of law in the country The modus operandi of Umno and PAS with their derange behavior are not part of the change package that the rakyat fought so hard to achieve in May th 2018. Listen Good PH or you shall be out !!!!
