M. KAYVEAS, whose presidency in MyPPP is disputed, accused his detractors in the party of being among the recipients of RM36 million, suspected to be from 1Malaysia Development Bhd, just before the May general election.

A week after he was called up by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for questioning, Kayveas told The Malaysian Insight that six of his senior party colleagues and associates received money allegedly siphoned off the debt-ridden state investment fund.

He said he gave the six names to MACC when he was questioned on October 18.

Kayveas said the money, allegedly paid in two tranches of RM16 million and about RM20 million before GE14, never went into the party coffers.

“I can say for sure that the money didn’t go into party accounts. It was taken by my detractors and the people who claim that they’ve sacked me and taken over,” he said at the MyPPP office in Kuala Lumpur.

“But even if they’ve taken over the party, they’ve not put the money into the party accounts.

“We have traced where they distributed the money – who has taken money from them, who are the people who have used this money to go against me.”

MACC ‘witness’

Kayveas said he was called up by the MACC as a witness in the investigation.

“The transactions took place in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya and the anti-graft body had wanted to confirm whether the funds were linked to 1MDB.

“Of course, I was unable to confirm (if it was from 1MDB) because I have no knowledge of the source of the money. That’s my simple answer to that.”

Kayveas was expelled from MyPPP earlier this year following in-fighting between rival factions for control of the party. Senior vice-president Maglin D’Cruz then assumed the role of acting president.

The faction aligned to D’Cruz said Kayveas was no longer a party member as of April 25. The Registrar of Societies (RoS), however, ruled on July 10 that Kayveas was the president and nine others were committee members.

Following Kayveas’ session with the MACC,  Loga Bala Mohan, spokesman for the D’Cruz camp, urged Kayveas to reveal the names of those he accused of receiving RM36 million.

In response, Kayveas said: “Of course, we know who were the people who took the money. They themselves know (who they are).”

‘We know who took the money’

Kayveas said he lodged police reports against the six. “What they did was without the knowledge of the party, without the knowledge of headquarters… without the money being put into the account of the party. They’ve taken the money.”

Kayveas said neither he nor the party has ever received cash from Barisan Nasional or the three previous prime ministers.

“I know they had (received) cash because they didn’t want to put it in the party account. Because once you go into the party account, I would have knowledge of it.

“But there are witnesses. There is a trail of where the money went, where they were hiding it, how many accounts they put the money in. How many people received the money. How many opened fresh accounts to take the money. How many moved the money from hotel rooms. Who booked the hotel rooms. Who collected the keys to the hotel. Where the money went and how many bags they used to carry the money.”

Kayveas denied allegations he bought properties abroad and that he sold “Tan Sri” titles, saying he was the victim of a smear campaign.

Loga Bala said last week that the party’s supreme council, which was recognised by the RoS, would meet on October 30 to discuss Kayveas’ revelations and that a police report could be filed against the accuser.

Loga Bala said there had been several police reports lodged against Kayveas since July over allegations he had amassed millions in property and business assets abroad and at home. – October 26, 2018.
