ACTRESS Ellie Suriati Omar, an ardent supporter of embattled former prime minister Najib Razak, today urged Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi “to stay strong”.

She told Zahid, who was charged with corruption last week, to keep fighting.

“Stay strong (Zahid), stay strong and fight on,” she told the former deputy prime minister as he left the Kuala Lumpur court complex today.

Zahid, who showed up to support Najib, who was this morning charged with six counts of criminal breach of trust related to funds linked to 1Malaysia Development Bhd, told Ellie: “I am going to Parliament now.”

He left an hour after arriving about 9am.

Ellie urged Pakatan Harapan leaders to stop waging a perception war against Umno.

“Our country was in a good state when Barisan Nasional handed over the government to PH.

“The only problem is the perception war against Najib and Umno leaders, including Zahid.”

The actress slammed the charges against Najib and Zahid as “political persecution”, and said supporters of the duo are unfazed.

“We will definitely be here for our Umno leaders, as we know the Amla (anti-money laundering act) charges are due to politics.”

Najib and former Treasury secretary-general Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah were today jointly charged with six counts of CBT, involving more than RM6.63 billion.

They face a combined maximum jail term of 120 years, whipping and a fine upon conviction.

Today’s charges bring to 38 the total number of charges Najib is facing.

The former finance minister was previously charged with 32 counts of CBT, money laundering and abuse of power involving RM2.6 billion said to be 1MDB funds, which he has claimed to be a donation from Saudi Arabia, and RM42 million from former 1MDB unit SRC International Sdn Bhd.

Najib and Irwan were represented by Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, K. Kumaraendran, Geethan Ram Vincent and Harvinderjit Singh.

Najib’s legal team comprises lead counsel Shafee, Harvinderjit, Farhan Read, Wan Aizuddin, Rahmat Hazlan, Muhammad Farhan Shafee and Syahirah Hanapiah.

  • This is not a kampung where anything goes. The days of Malays being emotional are not progressive and must be discarded, proper reasoning is better and to be preferred. We are a democracy and Dr. Mahathir has reminded Malaysians that our country has laws which must be followed, so let these allegations of wrongdoing be investigated by the courts to prove the innocence or guilt of Najib and Zahid. Leave it to the lawyers! The judge will hear both sides and arrive at a fair decision which can then be appealed by both sides..

    • It is like what Dr. Mahathir said, that people cannot be charged in court for breaking the law unless there is evidence to back up the charges. (Even then the court can reject the evidence and let the accused person to in free if the evidence is found to be insufficient, etc, & falling short of the criminal standard of proof.)

  • This poor actor must be living in another planet or smoking something to keep her from reality. Does she think that the billions paid as interest is perception? Can she really be that stupid ? This is what umno members suffer from..delusion. Are they so easily duped by the thieving leaders? Shouldnt they be condemning them for their deceit? She tells Zahid to stay strong, a guy who laundered money using Islam and has 12 million in in fixed deposit !!! The journos should stop reporting on stupid people.

  • Ellie is intentionally blind towards all the illegal doings by the former administration....
    She is smart too...
So the question that needs to be asked is what are the reasons for her to blindly support the pathetic DUMNO and crooked Najib?
There is always something hidden under the rock, so to speak..
    There obviously
