SABAH does not have to follow the federal proposal to peg the chief minister’s term in office to two terms, said Shafie Apdal.
The Sabah chief minister said there is a need to look into the state laws before deciding to follow the federal proposal.
“Well, I don’t mind. But we have to look into that matter first and see if it goes against the state constitution.
“Of course, we can adhere to some of the proposals by the Pakatan Harapan federal government, and though we are working closely, Parti Warisan Sabah is not part of PH,” he told reporters in Kota Kinabalu today.
Shafie’s sentiment echoes that of Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johar Openg who said Sarawak is autonomous and that a constitutional amendment had to be done to follow the two-term proposal.
When asked about Warisan losing five election petitions, Shafie said the party is looking at appealing the decisions.
According to him, most of the party’s petitions were struck out on technical grounds.
He said these were not due to the failure to prove election offences committed by the party named in the petitions.
“If they only rejected based on the submission of three forms, we should look at the content part of it.
“This is public knowledge and I may ask the lawyers to look at it one more time,” he said.
Warisan initially filed petitions for Kundasang, Sipitang, Sook, Sungai Sibuga and Libaran to be reviewed. – October 23, 2018.
