UMNO supporters will come out in droves if Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Comission (MACC), said Lokman Noor Adam.
The Umno Supreme Council member said supporters did not gather at the MACC when Zahid showed up earlier today for questioning because they were following the party president’s orders, but hundreds would turn up if he is detained.
“If he is arrested then there could be hundreds of supporters gathering (in solidarity),” he told The Malaysian Insight, explaining why there was no party member at the anti-graft agency this morning.
On Tuesday, Lokman had urged party members to gather at the MACC headquarters on Wednesday as a show of support for Zahid.
But Zahid had told his supporters not to hold any rally in front of MACC.
Today is the fourth time Zahid has been called in by the anti-corruption agency, where he will continue to be questioned over a graft case.
He arrived at 9.16am, accompanied by lawyers, in a white Lexus SUV.
No supporters were on hand to greet him.
In July, MACC had questioned Zahid twice in relation to a charitable organisation he had set up – the Akal Budi Foundation.
It was reported that RM800,000 had been allegedly misappropriated from the foundation to pay off Zahid and his wife’s credit card bills.
The former home minister also said the matter was due to a mistake. – October 11, 2018.
