Amputee designer hopes to find work

IT has been two years since Mohd Faizal Rahmat, 41, lost his left leg due to peripheral vascular disease.

“I nearly died after my leg was amputated because I didn’t take care of myself. At the time, I was taking care of my mother who was suffering from lung cancer,” Faizal, an architect graduate from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

His artwork “3D Kota Melaka”, depicting the Malacca empire before it was lost to the Portuguese, was recently widely shared on social media, giving him hope and encouragement to continue his work.

He sells his art designs online but does not earn enough to pay for his living and medical expenses, who come up to RM3,000 per month.

He needs a permanent job but his many for applications for work have been rejected because of his disability.

“I hope there are people who are willing to hire me despite my condition and they will let me work from home,” Faizal said. – October 29, 2022.
