THE fracas at yesterday’s Nothing to Hide 2.0 forum was caused by Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s supporters because they were angry he could not answer questions on the scandals during his rule, an aide to the prime minister said.
“As everyone knows, Pakatan Harapan is fundamentally divided. What else could be expected from a coalition that has been cobbled together as a marriage of convenience by former enemies who did everything to destroy each other for decades,” Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad said.
The prime minister’s press secretary also said the accusation hurled against Umno and Najib Razak by PH leaders, Mohamed Azmin Ali and others, is false, reckless and unbecoming.
PKR deputy president Azmin yesterday said Najib used gangsters to shut Dr Mahathir up as he was too afraid to debate.
Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub said he expects more provocation, but added it would not stop PH leaders.
Tengku Sariffuddin said the accusation thrown at Najib was a clear attempt to divert attention from the disintegration of Bersatu.
At the forum, a group of youths hurled shoes, water bottles at the stage where Bersatu chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad was seated.
Flares and chairs were also thrown around the hall.
Three youths have been arrested and remanded to facilitate police investigation.
Tengku Sariffuddin said Bersatu was in fact entirely responsible for the event and to blame the incident on Umno was an attempt by the opposition to cover up its members’ shameless action.
“If Pakatan is unable to even organise its own forums without chaos, we can only imagine what they would do to Malaysia.
He said while the authorities are investigating the incident and take the necessary action, the government led by Najib will continue to focus on the economic welfare, social wellbeing and security of all Malaysians. – August 14, 2017.
