If not for Putrajaya, Kelantan can’t pay civil servants, says Najib

CASH injections from the federal government is why civil servants in Kelantan get paid, Prime Minister Najib Razak said today.

He said the PAS-led Kelantan government is going through a deficit.

“In deficit states like Kelantan, if there is no federal government funding, they can’t afford the salaries,” Najib said in his speech to civil servants in Kota Baru.

He said several cash injections had been given to Kelantan despite the state being under opposition rule.

“We have given multiple cash injections, so, ladies and gentlemen, what is wrong if our (Umno) flag is raised that little bit higher.

“They come looking for help only when they are in trouble, and they still ask us to lower our raised flags. We do this out of the kindness of our hearts,” Najib said.

He also said that since he became prime minister, a lot has been done to develop Kelantan.

He said he has done more for the state in eight years compared to Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s 22 years in power.

“That is why I asked the Economic Planning Unit of Kelantan, from 1991 to 2005 the EPU was RM12 billion. And from 2006 to 2018 was as much as RM14.6 billion.

“That means in the eight years of being PM I have done a lot (of development) compared to the prime minister who was in power for 22 years,” Najib said alluding to Dr Mahathir.

Najib was elected to be prime minister in 2009 replacing Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. Dr Mahathir was the country’s longest serving prime minister when he resigned in 2003. – January 28, 2018.
