Malaysia breaks record again with 5,728 new virus cases

MALAYSIA today logged a record 5,728 new Covid-19 cases, three more than yesterday’s 5,725.

In a statement, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the fresh cases brought the caseload to 209,661, while active cases stood at 47,388

Thirteen deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, for a death toll of 746.

Noor Hisham said Selangor once again led the tally with 3,285 cases, followed by Johor and Kuala Lumpur with 792  and 480, respectively.

He said five  of today’s cases were imported.

On recoveries, Noor Hisham said 3,805 people were discharged from hospital today.

With this, he said, the total number of recoveries from the coronavirus now stands at 161,527.

Meanwhile, 319 patients are currently in intensive care, 120 of them on respiratory support. – January 30, 2021.
