BARISAN Nasional (BN) Machang lawmaker Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub has withdrawn his support for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, reducing the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government’s parliament seats to 110.

The simple majority in the 222-seat chamber is 112 seats.

The Umno Kelantan state chairman announced his decision at a press conference today in Kota Bahru.

He said he will notify Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi immediately of his decision.

Jazlan said his decision was based on upholding party principles and BN’s dignity.

“With this I announce that I withdraw my support for the PN government led by Muhyiddin Yassin,” he said.

Last week Jazlan created a stir when he announced that he was quitting as Malaysian Palm Oil Board chairman.

He said he was doing it in protest of the poor treatment of his party by the PN government.

“It is for the principles and dignity of the party,” Jazlan told The Malaysian Insight when contacted.

His decision comes on the back of Umno divisional meetings with many of the 189 division, calling on the party to break with Bersatu and dump the PN government

Many of the divisions has also demanded a general election be called by April, which they felt will put in in the driving seat of government again. – January 9, 2021.
