DAP leader Tony Pua has rejected any move to work with former prime minister Najib Razak in forming a new government.

The Damansara MP said those with seemingly unprincipled hunger for power would lap up Najib’s support to form a new government.

“I would never sign up with such a government.

“A government that has to depend on Najib’s support can go to hell. We already see that happening to Perikatan Nasional,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Pua was responding to a report that Najib had suggested during a Barisan Nasional meeting that the coalition, among other things, consider supporting PKR president Anwar Ibrahim in his bid to become prime minister.

The Umno Supreme Council is also in a meeting tonight to decide on one of two choices: stick with Muhyiddin Yassin and PN or dump the government formed eight months ago.

Yesterday, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong rejected Putrajaya’s request for emergency powers to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said after discussing the request with the Conference of Rulers, the king was of the view the federal government’s measures to fight the pandemic have been effective.

The Agong also told politicians to stop politicking that could threaten the stability of the government.

Pua said the simple fact remained that Najib is still the biggest crook in the country, who had brought shame to Malaysians all over the world and burdened Malaysians with tens of billions of debt if not more.

“And yet, he demonstrates no remorse, expresses no guilt and even have the audacity to claim the money was for poor orphans.”

In an immediate retort on Facebook, Najib said he too did not want to work with DAP.

“I also don’t want to work with you. That is why I said “no DAP” today in the Umno MPs meeting. But if you are steadfast with your ‘go to hell’ attitude, go ahead,” he said in a short post.

On July 29, the Kuala Lumpur High Court found Najib guilty on all seven criminal charges – three counts of criminal breach of trust, three counts of money-laundering and one count of abuse of power – to illicitly receive RM42 million into his personal account from SRC International Bhd.

Najib is now appealing the case.

He is facing other charges related to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal. – October 26, 2020.
