TRADERS are required to undergo Covid-19 tests before entering the Kuala Lumpur wholesale market in Selayang, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“They will also be required to furnish the results of the tests,” the director-general of health told a daily press briefing in Putrajaya today.

He said the Health Ministry has identified several daily markets that deal with the wholesale market and will screen the traders there as well.

As of today, 29 of 80 coronavirus cases detected outside the KL wholesale market are from four public markets in Selangor and Negri Sembilan.

Dr Noor Hisham said 75 people from Pasar Besar Seremban have been screened, with three testing positive and 71 negative. One result is pending.

At Pasar Besar Bahau, two of 182 people tested positive and 17 negative, with two results pending.

Among those at Pasar Besar Jalan Othman, 23 of 545 tested positive and the rest negative.

And at Pasar Taman Megah, only one tested positive out of 142.

“Although the enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) imposed on the Selayang and the KL wholesale markets ended on May 4, Parcels C, D, E1, E2, E3 and F in Pusat Bandar Utara remain under the EMCO till May 12,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

The areas around the wholesale markets and Selayang Baru are the only two places still under the EMCO. There are 180 Covid-19 cases involving the markets and 52 in Selayang Baru. – May 5, 2020.
