THE Federal Territories Ministry will look at three concepts to replace traditional Ramadan bazaars, which have been banned during the movement-control order (MCO) period, said Minister Annuar Musa.

The concepts – drive-through, pre-order and e-hailing delivery – will be discussed in detail on Thursday with the special ministerial committee on Covid-19.

“This morning, the committee asked the ministry and Kuala Lumpur City Hall to present the three concepts,” Annuar told a daily press briefing today.

“This is because many want to know how we are going to implement these new concepts. So, this Thursday, we will present the concepts to them.”

He said he previously presented the three ideas to the cabinet, but not in detail.

“So, many ministers and agency heads want to see these new concepts.

“(They want to know) where the drive-throughs will be located, where the stalls are going to be placed, how many people can work, and whether social distancing is followed.”

Earlier today, Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has barred Ramadan bazaars from operating during the MCO, which is due to end on April 28, almost a week after the fasting month begins on April 23.

He said the decision is final despite the Federal Territories Ministry’s preparations to unveil its plan to set up bazaar sites.

Annuar had said a drive-through bazaar could be set up at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, with stalls lined up 20m apart.

On the pre-order concept, he said the public can place orders for food and pay online, and pick up the items in designated areas, while for e-hailing delivery, the authorities can coordinate with service providers.

He added that the ministry has met 100 representatives of traders and hawkers’ associations to discuss the Ramadan bazaar issue.

“Yesterday, we agreed that whatever payment that they (traders and hawkers) have made to the associations this year, such as deposits, will be carried forward to next year. So next year, there will be no new payments.” – April 13, 2020.
