Agong to meet remaining 132 MPs today

YANG di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah will conduct the second round of interviews with MPs today following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government on Monday.

The Agong will interview the remaining 132 of the 222 lawmakers, starting at 10am, to find the best solution to the nation’s current state of political uncertainty.

Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Zuki Ali will also be present at the one-to-one interviews in Istana Negara.

Yesterday, the Agong interviewed 90 MPs to ascertain who commands the majority of support in Parliament to enable the formation of the next government.

This follows Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s resignation as prime minister and Bersatu chairman on Monday. Dr Mahathir is now serving as interim prime minister.

The cabinet was dissolved the same day.

Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir is scheduled today to meet Warisan president Mohd Shafie Apdal at the Prime Minister’s Department in Putrajaya.

Pakatan Harapan is also expected to issue a statement on the outcome of its presidential council meeting last night. – Bernama, February 26, 2020.
