‘Bossku’ helped BN wrest Semenyih, says Mat Hasan

NAJIB Razak’s “aura” is among the factors that helped Barisan Nasional win Semenyih, said Mohamad Hasan.

“Definitely, Najib campaigning helped BN win the by-election,” said the acting BN chairman at the vote-tallying centre at Kajang Municipal Council’s Seri Cempaka Hall tonight.

He said everyone played a part in the victory, which cannot be attributed to any single factor.

Former prime minister Najib had used his “Malu Apa Bossku” campaign to great effect in Semenyih, after the slogan made its debut in January’s Cameron Highlands by-election.

It proved a success, drawing a crowd of some 500 at his first appearance on the Semenyih campaign trail and seeing him constantly surrounded by supporters requesting photos.

Zakaria Hanafi was declared the new Semenyih assemblyman by returning officer Mohd Sayuthi Bakar at 9.25pm.

Mohamad, who is also Umno acting president, described tonight’s victory as “very sweet”, coming after BN’s Cameron Highlands win.

“We have to thank MCA and MIC, and especially PAS, which gave way once again for BN to contest.

“The very good cooperation between us resulted in this win. We will continue this cooperation among the opposition.

“This win shows that the people regret voting PH (in the 14th general election). The cooperation within the opposition will continue until GE15.” – March 2, 2019.
