HASHIM Jasin is among three key figures in Perlis PAS who were summoned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission this morning over claims the party received RM90 million from Umno.
Earlier this month, the PAS spiritual leader’s alleged vast wealth came under scrutiny, prompting him to deny owning a RM100,000 Porsche Cayman. Hashim said the luxury car was bought by his son from England using the Approved Permit, which was reserved to him as MP and used for business purposes.
MACC is investigating claims in whistle-blower site Sarawak Report’s 2016 article that former prime minister Najib Razak funnelled RM90 million to top PAS leaders in exchange for support in the 14th general election.
A source told The Malaysian Insight that in Kelantan, PAS exco and former Kuala Krai assemblyman Mohamed Nasir Che Daud was also called up at 9am today to give his statement.
Between seven and nine senior leaders of the Islamist party are on MACC’s list and will be called for questioning beginning today, said the source.
Their statements will be recorded at the anti-graft agency’s offices in Kelantan, Terengganu and Perlis, and Putrajaya headquarters.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan was yesterday questioned at the MACC headquarters over the RM90 million, and allegations that he owns several luxury cars and motorcycles with exclusive registration numbers.
Takiyuddin was the second PAS leader to be questioned in the MACC probe, with central committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz being the first to be grilled on February 8.
The party’s former deputy president, Nasharudin Mat Isa, and current vice-president Husam Musa have also had their statements recorded.
Takiyuddin on February 11 confirmed that the voice in an audio clip claiming that PAS had sought RM2 million from Umno with the knowledge of the Islamist party’s leaders was that of Nik Abduh.
Nik Abduh said the money was for use in the 2016 Sarawak elections, with the aim of bringing down DAP.
It was reported that he mentioned several names in the recording, including PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, information chief Nasrudin Hassan and Hadi’s son-in-law, Zaharuddin Muhammad.
MACC launched its probe after police reports were lodged following Hadi’s move to settle his defamation suit against Sarawak Report editor Claire Rewcastle-Brown. β March 1, 2019.
