ABDUL Rashid Abdul Rahman has defended his controversial call at the Bersatu’s annual general assembly last month to use government resources to help the party’s divisions.
The Bersatu vice-president said his call for Putrajaya to bring back the Federal Development Department (JPP) to disburse “goodies”, including government contracts, to party loyalists is justified.
Abdul Rashid also said the call was timely as he was only voicing the sentiments of the party’s division chiefs nationwide.
“What I said was not scripted. It was spontaneous.
He said they often complained to him as they have no funds and therefore are finding it difficult to implement development programmes in their respective areas.
“As vice-president, I am compelled to get them heard,” he said.
Abdul Rashid said in serving the community, “we have to be realistic”.
“They needed money. If we have no money, (then) we have no (support). We can’t save up.
“We want the people’s continued support, not just for one term,” he added
Abdul Rashid, who heads the government’s electoral reform committee, called on top leaders to bring back the JPP so that activities in opposition-controlled states could be directly controlled by the government, had delegates cheering even though it goes against the principle of separating government and party – something that underpins the Pakatan Harapan coalition that Bersatu belongs to.
He said in the states where Bersatu lost, the party should not give the opposition the opportunity to retain them.
“We must bring back the JPP so that activities can be channelled through them. And, division and branch chiefs can benefit from these activities,” Abdul Rashid said. – January 5, 2019.

There can be no handouts as practised by umno.
As VP of Bersatu and instead of voicing delegates concerns and complaints, you should know better to educate them.
What good are you then to Bersatu if you cant understand the difference between Bersatus and Umnos ideologies?
Rashid, dont you think you should just resign and join umno?
