Champion all races, Mat Hasan tells Umno

Umno acting president Mohamad Hasan says the party-owned Utusan Malaysia should stop pushing only Umno's agenda, and instead, 'be the voice of the people'. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Afif Abd Halim, December 30, 2018.

UMNO must reinvent itself to champion all races, not just Malays, said acting president Mohamad Hasan.

This is so the party can regain the people’s support and show it can be an effective opposition, Utusan Malaysia reported him as saying today.

He said Umno leaders must show Malaysians that they have changed and are fighting for the people’s issues.

Mohamad, also known as Mat Hasan, has taken over the president’s duties from Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and is keen to chart his own path for Umno’s revival, following Barisan Nasional’s defeat in the 14th general election.

“Don’t ignore the people. Maybe they were angry with us before, but they are more disappointed with Pakatan Harapan now.”

He called on Umno elected representatives to effectively raise the people’s concerns.

“Our elected reps must work on the ground. If you can’t do that, then don’t contest. This is not like the old Umno.

“Now, we are the people’s servant. We must work (for them).”

The former Negri Sembilan menteri besar urged Umno to fight against the DAP campaign that has turned the people against the previous BN administration and Malays.

He said Umno must champion the rights of all races, which will return non-Malay support for the party.

Mohamad said party leaders must start questioning Finance Minister and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s performance, claiming that the people are unhappy with Lim.

He added that Umno mouthpiece Utusan should stop pushing only the party’s agenda.

“Don’t cause problems and talk nonsense.

“I am asking Utusan to be the voice of the people, and not the mouthpiece of Umno.”

He added that no one would read the daily if it continues carrying only stories on him and the party. – December 30, 2018.

  • Hello Mat
If you are looking for a common enemy to make UMNO relevant, it is not DAP or Lim Guan Eng.
UMNO has lost the trust and confidence of most Malaysians.
Your common enemy is Greed , Racism and Dishonesty in UMNO.
Your leadership and members subscribed to these 3 habits.
    Clean up first.
Don't bark at the wrong tree.

  • I dont know when umno will realise that all are Malaysians even DAP. They are not living in a silo and they exist only because of the nonsense of umno and their cronies. If they realise if they can be fair and take a leaf from DAP manifesto to champion all Malaysians without fear or favour, they can easily comeback. Pick a concept of no one left behind Lower the notion that being more like PAS is an advantage because thats an outdated and failed policy.

  • Sounds better. Although, that rhetoric on DAP still shows UMNO still needs some brain cell transplant.

  • They kept shouting protecting the Malay rights and religion. May I know who is robbing those rights and damaging their religion?? Who are corrupted and dirty politicians doing it??

  • Good. Now open up membership on an equal basis to all Malaysians and rename yourselves the United Malaysian National Organisation. Otherwise this is just rhetoric.
