Utusan editor quits as Mat Hasan takes over Umno leadership

IBRAHIM Yahaya has quit as the Utusan Malaysia group editor, a week after being appointed to the position by the Umno-owned newspaper.

Ibrahim’s decision came two days after Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi handed over his duties in the party to his deputy, Mohamad Hasan.

Ibrahim was Ahmad Zahid’s former press secretary during his tenure as the deputy prime minister in the Barisan Nasional government.

Utusan Malaysia announced the decision in a filing to Bursa Malaysia this evening.

He was appointed to the Utusan Board last July.

Ibrahim is known in the country’s media circle as Tiger.

Ibrahim, 58, was also the director-general of broadcasting from 2009 till 2011. 

The veteran newsman began his career in Malay-language daily Berita Harian, and served as Bernama TV chief executive officer from August 2013 to December 2014. – December 21, 2018.
