Developments in Pakatan made Nurul Izzah quit, says Saifuddin

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail says Nurul Izzah Anwar has chosen the best path for herself by remaining as Permatang Pauh MP so that she can continue to give her views via Parliament. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, December 18, 2018.

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who had a meeting with Nurul Izzah Anwar for almost two hours yesterday, said that he surmised that internal developments in Pakatan Harapan drove her to quit as PKR vice-president, Penang PKR chairman, and from the government posts she was holding.

“It was not due to internal issues in PKR as some have speculated… but more to what is happening in PH itself,” he said when met by reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

“Having known Nurul Izzah for some 20 years, she holds fast to the idealism of her struggle, is very committed to the reform agenda, and really wanted to see PH follow through on this agenda for the people’s betterment. With that, I respect her decision,” he said.

He said Nurul Izzah had chosen the best path for herself by remaining as Permatang Pauh MP so that she can continue to give her views via Parliament.

“Nurul Izzah expressed her dissatisfaction with what is happening in PH, which she feels is not staying true to its path. She feels it would be difficult for her to speak up if she continues to hold her positions, all the more because she is always seen as the daughter of Anwar Ibrahim and her mother is the deputy prime minister,” said Saifuddin.

Asked about replacements for the posts Nurul Izzah has given up, Saifuddin said Nurul Izzah was an elected vice-president, and the party had to refer to its constitution as to whether the vacancy could be filled via appointment by the president.

“Anwar is on a holiday now. I am only acting (secretary-general) and have been asked to carry out secretary-general duties until a new secretary-general is appointed.

Saifuddin said that he had yet to receive an official resignation letter from Nurul Izzah. – Bernama, December 18, 2018.

  • One person, however determined and committed, cant expect to change this world based on his or her idealism..
He or she would have to work with others who may share same or similar idealism.. this is where the close collaboration of the PH coalition is important..
Sometimes there are differences in opinions, strategies, plans... and we must be prepared to sometime compromise on our own strategies BUT end of the day, work together to achieve the goals..
If Nurul wants to give up and cant and doesnt want to take up the challenge to work with others, so be it.. She is important for PHs struggle because of her true values and drive but if she plans to give up so easily, Lets move on.. Nobody except Dr M, at the moment is indispensable..

  • Strange that those who say they are so commited to idealism had no problems with the widespread cheating that went on during the PKR elections. Until their and their father's favorite horse lost the race. Only then did they change their song.
    Idealism? I think not.

  • Young people got warm blood which boils easily. She is not strong enough to stop the exodus of MPs into PH. She gives up too easily.
