ABDUL Aziz Sheikh Fadzir today resigned from his post as the executive chairman of Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd, around two weeks after he started downsizing operations at the Umno-owned company.

His resignation was announced by Utusan in a statement to Bursa Malaysia this evening.

Utusan recently terminated around 800 of its employees via a voluntary separation scheme that took effect on November 30.

The reason for his resignation was set down as personal business commitments.

Abdul Aziz took up the appointment on June 7 two weeks after the chairman Mohamad Fatmi Che Salleh resigned along with four directors.

The four directors who left were Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad, Jamalul Kiram Mohd Zakaria and Mohd Yusof Abu Othman and Md Afendi Hamdan.

In the statement Utusan also announced the re-designation of Ibrahim Yahaya from non-executive to executive director. It said this was in line with his appointment as group editor-in-chief, effective today.

Ibrahim, 58, was formerly press secretary to Ahmad Zahid Hamidi when he was the deputy prime minister.

Ibrahim also served as media adviser to the communications and multimedia minister in 2011.

The statement said former Kuala Selangor MP Irmohizam Ibrahim is a non-executive board member, effective today. – December 13, 2018.
