UMNO Youth chief Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki wants members and leaders to focus on strengthening the party, rather than thinking of setting up a unity government with Pakatan Harapan.

He said Umno need not seek sympathy from any quarters and set up the government through the “back door”.

“We should not sell our dignity just to become the government, and in the end, be rejected by the people in the next general election,” he told a press conference at the Putra World Trade Centre today.

He was asked to comment on reports that Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party hopes that the establishment of a unity government, involving Umno and any PH component, could be realised soon.

Zahid was quoted as saying although Umno has not set a specific period, it hopes the goal can be achieved via mutual agreement. – Bernama, September 29, 2018.
