ANWAR Ibrahim yesterday defended his criticism against the “super liberal” groups, saying what they are fighting for is unacceptable in Malaysia.

Clarifying what he meant by “super liberals”, the PKR president-elect said he was against those who challenged the position of the Malay language and those who promoted the LGBT (lesbian, gays, bisexual and transgender) culture.

“Those who are challenging the policy of the Malay language in education… I’m not against those who are defending the use of English. I can accept that.

“But (I will not accept) if they want to challenge the position of the national language or defend LGBT.

“Just like (Prime Minister) Dr Mahathir Mohamad said, we in Malaysia cannot accept this (LGBT) and we reject these groups,” said Anwar at the PKR headquarters last night after he was asked what he termed as “super liberals”.

“People’s sexual orientation is not my business but the promotion of this here cannot be accepted. I have met many religious leaders in the country and they all rejected it strongly.”

Earlier, Anwar hit out at “super liberals” whom he accused of attacking him for engineering the Port Dickson by-election.

This group talked about national issues without regard for others’ views as if they “owned the country”, he said.

“They say that I cannot be trusted. This is the liberal group that think I’m too Malay and too Islamic.” – September 26, 2018.

  • Who is challenging the position of the Malay language and Malays? I really hope this is not a veiled reference to UEC recognition, because that's not what it's about. I hope Datuk Seri will clarify it further.

As for "LGBT" activism, I hardly see them making any waves. I must admit that I did not check on their activities in any detail and I am relying on general observation, but does Anwar realise that punching down on phantom molehills invites the rest of society to treat actual people poorly? Nobody can actually tell if someone is an LGBT campaigner. Gay marriage activists in Malaysia do not walk around with a badge to identify themselves. And at least one of them have already been hounded out of Malaysia to live in exile abroad, so what is this to be proud of? Should I also remind the reader of some hideous violent crimes that have been committed against transexuals in the past two years?

May I also suggest that the national language can be best improved by publishing quality works in BM that teaches and exposes the reader to new information, practical knowledge and praxis, higher order thinking ability, and even if it's fiction hopefully it exposes the reader to some insight into the humanities and the wonderful (and terrifying) world around them. This will accomplish more than just yelling and shaking fists in the air and punching down on phantom biting insects and hopefully not actual dissenting opinions and actual minorities.

    • The skill in BM has never been ignored. There is always a requirement to obtain at least a credit in SRP, SPM and even then LCE, HSC before one can move up the ladder. So what is the fuss from this politician?

    • Agreed. Creating an issue out of nothing. No one questions the use of BM. So who is he directing his challenge at? Is he back to playing the old kind of politics again??? Many non Malays scored credit and even high distinctions in BM and yet they could master their own dialects and the English language too. Why?

  • I am not a LGBT, but at least see their problems & look into their welfare like England's new Minister for Women and Equality said she was doing on their recent 3rd July updated report from 2011?..

  • LGBT may be a sin in the eyes of some religions, but definitely not a crime. Why should a politician openly declare he is against LGBT?

Posted 7 years ago by Tanahair Ku · Reply

    • LGBT if going mainstream will destroy the social fabric of the country.

  • Anwar stop making stories and projection.!!!! Nobody is killing Bahasa Malaysia. Infact the rakyat wants an upgrade in the education system and thru' English as a media of instruction to enhance knowledge while retaining BM as the main language. Stop your idiotic charade. Coming from you stronly against LGBT issues is tickeling our toes. Seems that only rakyat understand the dilema faced by the LGBT but we have two face politicians in the guise of religion condemning the LGBT on their rights to their own style of living. There has never been serious felony from this group on others but ironically we do see plenty of politicians and religious clerics in their hight mighty world committing crime of sodomy , pedophile, wives snatcher, incest, drug abuser, murder, corruptions , money laundering and too many more to be mentioned. So why are you dwelling on triviality. Looks like you are a desperado and it is definitely bad for the nation. Do not take the rakyat for a fool on your devious game. You have become very very annoying and vexatious. Obviously very self serving . Stop using the words of super liberal . No wonder you understand not the comprehension of the word itself and sillily falling on the excuse to insists on defending the national language as a side show. Actually there is totally no reason for you to do so. It is confirmed that you are a has been !!!!!!!!!!!!!
