PKR will hold fresh elections in Kedah while the Penang results remain, said its president-elect today.
“The party leadership has agreed with the PKR central election committee to cancel the Kedah election results while maintaining the Penang one,” said Anwar Ibrahim at the party’s headquarters.
An audit will also take place to ensure the integrity of the party’s e-voting system, he said.
Elections in Kedah and Penang last weekend were marred by chaos and violence, prompting the party to postpone voting in Negri Sembilan and Malacca to September 29.
The party declared the Kedah results invalid after nine divisions could not proceed with the e-voting system, which was used for the first time.
In Penang, deputy president Azmin Ali won 3,326 votes against challenger Rafizi Ramli (3,150).
The political bureau meeting tonight also identified several weaknesses with the voting process, Anwar said.

“But polling is scheduled to go on with some improvements in Johor on September 30,” said the 71-year-old, who is contesting the Port Dickson by-election on October 13.
Technicians are deployed to the states to help with the voting as this is the first time PKR members are using the e-voting system, he said.
Committee chairman Rashid Din said no new dates have been set for Kedah. The party will also sack two members from the Merbok and Seberang Jaya divisions for disrupting the elections.
“In Merbok, there were fights and the member was identified and sacked immediately. In Seberang Jaya, we have identified the person who threw a chair and he will also be sacked,” Anwar said. –September 25, 2018.
