ANWAR Ibrahim has warned party members to behave a day after chaotic scenes forced PKR to cancel party elections nationwide.
The incoming PKR president said discipline in the party must he upheld and warned members that he will not be as lenient as outgoing president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
“I have heard stories about those making promises involving projects. I am not as kind as Wan Azizah. I will take action against those who do this and tarnish the party’s image,” he said during party’s Malaysia Day celebrations today in Kota Kinabalu.
This is Anwar’s first visit to Sabah in six years[.
Anwar was referring to the ongoing party polls, which saw the results in Kedah cancelled and polling in Perlis and Perak postponed.
Anwar said those created trouble in the party polls, like in Penang and Kedah yesterday, will also be booted out of the party.
“Those who created trouble yesterday, they probably think this is MIC. MIC is famous for throwing chairs.
“If they love throwing chairs, I will make sure they will be thrown out of the party,” he said.
Anwar said some dissent in PKR should not matter, as running the party was not like running the country.
He said running the country requires full support of all quarters, like how he is behind Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir.
“But in the party, as long as we don’t cross the line, everything will be okay. Members can pick anyone who are real leaders and true to the struggles of PKR.
“For those who are contesting, contest fairly let the members know your policies.”
Anwar said he had reminded the two deputy president candidates that they must uphold discipline and had also made both leaders to see eye to eye at a recent event.
Anwar also took a swipe at those who questioned his move to contest in Port Dickson, saying he has already made the decision on the matter and informed the prime minister over his decision.
“But despite all the excitement there are those who complain , I dont get it (why they are raising their grouses).
“Those who had offer me their seats are many. Some had even prepared their resignation letters.
“But I have to discuss the matter first. There were aspects that I had to consider, like whether I could win.”
Anwar said there should be no question over the decision, as he had to be in Parliament to prepare for the transition of power from Dr Mahathir. – September 23, 2018.
