A REPORT on how to reform Islamic bodies and institutions in the country is due to be tabled next month or December at the latest, said Mujahid Yusof Rawa.

The report is being prepared by the Council of Islamic Affairs after consultations with all the stakeholders.

“This report must be ready before any proper reforms can be carried out,” said Mujahid during the Amanah ministers’ dialogue session in Temerloh today.

The temporary council will serve as a bridge between the royalty and the cabinet, he added.

He said Islamic law is under state jurisdiction and it was necessary to understand the views of the royalty and other stakeholders such as Islamic agencies, civil society groups, academicians, and scholars before anything could be done.

Mujahid, who is the minister in charge of Islamic affairs, added that his priorities included revamping 14 agencies such as Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia and Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council.

Agriculture Minister Salahuddin Ayub told Amanah members at the party’s third anniversary that his ministerial objectives were to ensure adequate food supply in the country and raise the income of farmers and fishermen.

He said that while China has a food supply of two years, and Singapore has 11 months, Malaysia’s supply can only last 22 days.

“My challenge is to raise this while making sure farmers’ income are raised.”

Some of the challenges in his way are the competition between consumers and farmers.

“Consumers want produce at cheaper prices but farmers also need to raise their income. So, it’s a tricky challenge,” he added.

Other ministers at the dialogue session were Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad and Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad. The session was moderated by Entrepreneur Development Deputy Minister Hatta Ramli. – September 22, 2018.
