Govt may review case of man sentenced to death over medical marijuana, says PM

PRIME Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has indicated that the government could review the case of a man sentenced to death for making and distributing medicinal cannabis oil.

“I think we should review that,” he said, when asked about the case of Muhammad Lukman, a 29-year-old father of one who was found guilty of processing, possessing and distributing medical marijuana (cannabis oil).

Lukman was arrested in 2015 after police discovered 2 kilogrammes of dry cannabis and 260g of compressed cannabis at his home.

He was handed the death sentence by the Shah Alam High Court on August 30.

An online petition to free Lukman has garnered more than 37,000 signatures. – September 18, 2018.
