THE National Patriot Association (Patriot) says it will not be fielding its own candidate in the Port Dickson by-election despite being angry over PKR engineering the resignation of the incumbent MP to make way for Anwar Ibrahim.
“The news saying that we will join the by-election to challenge Anwar Ibrahim is not true. Patriot never issued such a statement,” its president Brig Gen (Rtd) Mohamed Arshad Raji told the Malaysian Insight.
“However, we are not stopping anyone from contesting nor from voting,” Arshad said.
It was reported previously that Patriot will field a candidate to contest in the upcoming by-election.
Patriot had expressed dissatisfaction over the resignation of first time MP Danyal Balagopal Abdullah who made way for Anwar.
Danyal was the PKR candidate in the last general election in Port Dickson.
Arshad was quoted as saying that the Port Dickson electorate had voted for Danyal and most of them were army veterans.
Arshad stressed that Danyal was the right person for Port Dickson.
Danyal is a retired Rear Admiral.
He won the seat in the 14th general election, garnering 36,225 votes to BN’s 18,515 votes and PAS’ 6,594 votes. β September 16, 2018.
