EARLY unofficial results for the Sri Setia by-election show that Pakatan Harapan’s candidate is leading by 338 votes.

The data gathered from four polling stations by think tank Institute Darul Ehsan showed that PKR’s Halimey Abu Bakar had picked up 1,198 votes ahead of PAS’ Dr Halimah Ali, who had 860 votes.

All polling centres for the by-election closed at 5.30pm today.

The Seri Setia seat fell vacant following the death of its assemblyman Shaharuddin Badaruddin from colon cancer on August 2.

In the May general election, Shaharuddin Badaruddin garnered 29,250 votes to defeat Barisan Nasional’s Yusoff M Haniff (9,878) and PAS’ Mohd Ghazali Daud (4,563) by a majority of 19,372 votes. Independent S Vigneswaran LM Sanasee only managed to obtain 217 votes. – September 8, 2018.
